No files, this is a tracking list. Shoutouts: bassdrive.com - for their high quality live DJ's and mixing, bringing us what is, the best, in DnB. Acquired many of these titles either by the dj noting the track during a session, or hitting them up via IM. Spellcheck: None. I play it where it lands, comments included. Legend: [] - square bracket descriptions and notes delimiter () - parentesses are usually mix names of the track +1 - arbitrary point system, dnb cream factor. Score +3 is maximum pure liquid dark dnb. Categories: o the cream of dnb - Cream of the crop high quality dnb. Usually any artist listed here should be saught out for other tracks. o figure it out - Should be in the first category, only have a little info to work on. o not quite cream - needs a bit of work but not bad o lesser cream dnb - needs a lot of work, probably good as a background mixing track o more trance-like stuff - not really dnb, but cream-like trance-electronica tracks o compiliation - whole cd's n such o random notes - whatever Personal tastes: NO- o Standard drum-n-snare can stay in the alley. If it sounds like the same 16-beat midi tracker every amateur producer uses, skip it. o Some jamacian guy shouting incoherantly or obnoxiously, and being labeled 'jungle dnb'. Maybe those tunes should be relabeled 'carribean dnb'. o Kiddie rave techno. Falls right under washing machine electronic. 3 layers of by-the-script synth. 2 Unlimited is not dnb. Some 19 y/o on acid and high losing control of their own beats at the rave. OMG don't spit beer from your nose. o "washing machine" electronic is bollocks, i.e. 1-beat or 2-beat/hi/lo bassline. Lots of white noise high's with little substance. See list below for examples on how not to suck. o if you are reading this and have no experience differenciating 'dnb' from 'techno', here are some quick examples: - The untrained ear lobs everything into one electronic category, techno. - Oakenfold for example is not dnb, although deserves quality in his own category of 'techno', but not here. - High quality dnb is maticulously engineered. If you feel you could have made the same track using a walmart midi keyboard with some loops, seek a new track immediately. YES- o Clever, well thought out layers with intense focus on communication of the sounds. Control and pacing are key. o Accurately interwoven timed mixing with intelligent layer cues. o Consider the djs who mix the high quality sounds as sound engineers - the result of top quality spinning should flow like machinery. o Deep and commanding. A true jam will is a master martial artist, training it's students through the ear. o Consistent originality.
